MIAMI — Coast Guard crews interdicted more than 7,300 pounds of cocaine in the international waters of the Caribbean Sea during three separate cases.
Crews assessed the value of the illegal narcotics in Port Everglades, which totaled about $96 million, according to a news release. Multiple crews were involved in the interdictions including a Netherland Navy ship, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations and various assets of the Coast Guard.
"The success of our joint efforts to save lives by reducing the availability of these harmful drugs is dependent on our cooperation with regional and international partners," said Juan Ramirez, a Coast Guard staff attorney, in the release.
The news release said three suspected smugglers will face prosecution in federal courts.
