Reports: 2 adults, 1 child airlifted after boat crash in Florida Keys

The boat was speeding early Monday morning before hitting the South Pine Channel Bridge off Little Torch Key, reports said.

LITTLE TORCH KEY, Fla. — Three people, including a child, are recovering from injuries after they were airlifted from a boat that crashed early Monday morning in the Florida Keys, according to reports.

WPLG-TV reports a 35-foot center console boat was speeding around 2 a.m. before hitting the South Pine Channel Bridge off Little Torch Key. Officials told the outlet there were eight people on board during the crash, including six adults and two children.

Officials from Monroe County Fire Rescue, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and TowBoat U.S. responded to the crash, according to The Miami Herald. Crews used ladders from an old bridge to rescue passengers on the boat before sinking.

Two people involved in the crash were reportedly airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, while another was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center.

Both reports say four others aboard the boat were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center for injuries.

The boat stayed in the water until about 9:30 a.m., WPLG-TV reports.

The outlet says FWC is now investigating this crash.
