TAMPA, Fla. — Forbes partnered with a research firm to rank the best employers in every state.
Coming in at No. 1 in Florida was American Express with Capital One coming in second and Progressive at third out of 100.
American Express also placed third for Forbes' Best Employers for New Grads list and Progressive came in at No. 1 on the magazine's Best Employers for Diversity list.
For companies headquartered in the Tampa Bay area, Raymond James Financial, based in St. Petersburg, ranked 17. The University of South Florida in Tampa ranked 30. Publix, based in Lakeland, came in at 36. Three area hospitals, Tampa General Hospital (42), Sarasota Memorial Hospital (54) and BayCare in Clearwater (57) made the list. The final Tampa Bay-area employer to rank on the list was Pinellas County, coming in at 73.
Forbes and the research firm, Statista, surveyed more than 160,000 employees working for companies with at least 500 people in the United States. Participants were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer, to evaluate employers they had worked for within the past two years and organizations they knew within their industry or through friends or family who worked there.
Those responses were incorporated into a scoring system with survey data from the past three years.
Banking and financial service companies dominated the top 10 spots including companies such as Fidelity Investments, Charles Schwab and Navy Federal Credit Union. The ones at the bottom of the list include Toyota North America, AutoZone and Burlington Stores.
