The red tide bloom is plaguing Florida’s Gulf coast, killing thousands of fish and other sea life.
Red tide can also cause respiratory irritation, which has kept beachgoers away.
There are several ways to check on the conditions of specific Tampa Bay area beaches.
Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties have information posted to their sites on beach conditions, red tide updates and maps showing where samples were taken.
Pinellas County also utilizes the Experimental Red Tide Respiratory Forecast.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission along with the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium also provide testing and maps for the Tampa Bay area beaches.
