Higher concentrations of red tide found in Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties

The midweek report on concentrations of Karenia brevis, the organism that causes red tide, found compared to last week, the algae bloom had worsened along those three counties.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Red tide is getting worse along Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The midweek report on concentrations of Karenia brevis, the organism that causes red tide, found compared to last week, the algae bloom had worsened along those three counties.

Reports of fish kills were received from Pinellas and Manatee counties, and respiratory irritation was found in all three counties.

FWC and the University of South Florida predict a southwestern movement of surface waters and southeastern movement of subsurface waters in most areas over the next three days.
