WAVERLY, Florida — A sixth case of rabies has been confirmed in Polk County this year, the sheriff's office said Friday.
On Wednesday, a Waverly dog owner called after her boxer came home with a bat in its mouth. The owner killed the bat with a shovel after the dog dropped it.
The bat was tested and came back positive for rabies.
The dog was up-to-date with his rabies vaccine and received a booster.
