Tampa, Florida -- Tampa City Council approved extending Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor's contract for at least one more year. She was scheduled to retire on Tuesday, but Mayor Bob Buckhorn requested she stay on for another year.
In 2009, Chief Castor announced she would take part in the Deferred Retirement Options Plan, or DROP. 10 Investigates uncovered she cannot withdraw from DROP, meaning in order to stay on this year she must be re-hired as a civilian.
That means Castor will receive more than $500,000 from DROP, along with $113,000 a year in retirement money for the rest of her life.
