'Ladders to Get Over Trump's Wall' counters wall-building GoFundMe, with no ladders involved

Much like the current state of partisan politics, GoFundMe is home to two competing campaigns: one to help build Trump's border wall and another to help immigrants.

First, it was "build the wall." Now, "build the ladders?"

A GoFundMe campaign recently launched counters an ever-growing fundraiser to bankroll President Donald Trump's border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. The latter of which -- "We The People Will Fund The Wall" -- has raised more than $16 million as of Sunday evening.

The outcome for "Ladders to Get Over Trump's Wall" isn't building literal ladders, its GoFundMe says. Instead, creators intend to use the money to support the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, or RAICES, a Texas-based nonprofit.

The wall-building effort has a $1 billion goal; its opposite is down to $100 million, with money to use right away.

"You see, they’ll never reach their goal, but no matter how much we raise, we’re going to reach ours: Supporting an organization working to help immigrants seeking legal asylum. This GoFundMe isn’t really about ladders at all," reads the campaign.

"It’s about lifting people up."

VERIFY: Here's why the $1 billion #GoFundTheWall campaign probably won’t fund the border wall

As campaigns spar on GoFundMe so, too, do politicians. Trump and congressional Democrats appear not yet to budge from their stances over border wall funding, prompting a partial federal government shutdown that likely will last beyond Christmas.
