ATLANTA — Former President Jimmy Carter attended the national tribute service for his wife and former first lady Tuesday in Atlanta, The Carter Center said.

Mrs. Carter, the lifelong partner and confidant of 39th President Jimmy Carter, died on Nov. 19 at 96 years old. They were married for 77 years.

The former president was among a high-profile list of guests for Tuesday's tribute service for Rosalynn Carter at Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University.

The invite-only guest list included President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, according to the White House.

It was a service filled with dignitaries, including Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Former first ladies Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, and Laura Bush also attended.

Locally, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and his wife, Marty Kemp, were present. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and his daughter, Bailey, were also guests, according to The Carter Center.

Family and friends offered touching tributes to the former first lady -- sharing stories of her warmth, love and devotion to those she cared for. It was also a tribute to her devoted service to the nation as she supported her husband during his years in the White House.

In an attempt to honor Rosalynn Carter's legacy and lifetime worth of work, memorials will stretch across three days from Americus to Atlanta and back to Plains. Events began Monday with a motorcade leading up to a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Mrs. Carter will lie in repose Monday evening at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. She will depart from this location on Tuesday, marking the second day of events. Her procession back to Plains and funeral is planned for Wednesday.
