PLAINS, Ga. — Former President Jimmy Carter has cast his ballot in the 2024 election.

The Carter Center said the former president voted by mail on Wednesday, Oct. 16. It's no secret that Jimmy Carter was looking forward to casting his ballot in the presidential election. His grandson, Jason Carter, told 11Alive in an interview in September that the Democrat wanted to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.

"He's also excited to vote for Kamala Harris, right," Jason Carter shared at the time. "He's waiting for his absentee ballot. He's going to cast that ballot, and I think he's ready, like many of us to turn the page on this Donald Trump era of our politics."

The Carter Center announced in Feb. 2023 that the former president had entered hospice care at his home in Plains. At the time, he was 98 years old. Since then, the Carter family has said farewell to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who died at 96 last year.

Earlier this month, on Oct. 1, Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday. He is the first U.S. president to turn 100

To celebrate the 39th president, a concert was held in September at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, featuring artists ranging from pop, rock, gospel, country, jazz, hip-hop, and classical music.

The Associated Press reported earlier in October the star-studded event raised $1.2 million to support international programs at The Carter Center, which Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter founded in 1982.
