HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor is expected to represent Hillsborough and Pinellas counties for the District 14 seat.
Castor is projected to beat out her Republican challenger Robert Rochford, according to the Associated Press.
Castor was reportedly the first woman elected to Congress for this district when she won in 2006, which covers parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, including major cities Tampa and St. Petersburg.
Prior to being elected to Congress, Castor was a Hillsborough County commissioner and chair of the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission. A native of the Tampa Bay area, she graduated from Tampa's Chamberlain High School, Emory University and Florida State University College of Law.
Her campaign centered around affordable housing, climate change, health care and other issues that align with the Democratic party.
