Election Day: Tampa voters to decide on next mayor in municipal election

Term limits prevent current Mayor Bob Buckhorn from running again.

TAMPA, Fla. — Voters in the city of Tampa will vote Tuesday to elect a new mayor.

Seven candidatesJane Castor, Harry Cohen, Dick Greco Jr., Christopher “Topher” Morrison, David Straz, Mike Suarez and Ed Turanchik – are vying to replace outgoing Mayor Bob Buckhorn. Term limits prevent Buckhorn from running again.

Voters may also choose to write in a candidate for mayor.

Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If none of the seven candidates earn 50 percent of the vote, it would trigger a runoff election between the top two candidates.

A runoff election would be scheduled for April 23.

Tampa voters will also decide on who fills several Tampa City Council seats and 18 different charter amendments.
