TAMPA, Fla. -- Florida voters have elected Chad Chronister as sheriff of Hillsborough County, defeating Democratic challenger Gary Pruitt.
Chronister was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott on Sept. 30, 2017.
The appointment came after former Sheriff David Gee announced his retirement.
Chronister had worked at the sheriff's office since 1992. He has held a variety of positions throughout his career, many of which involved covert or investigative operations.
