MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 20-year-old Bradenton woman was thrown from a motorcycle and ran over by an impaired driver on Friday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alexandria Marler was riding on the back of a Yamaha motorcycle driven by Zachary Morris, 21, of Bradenton, when their motorcycle was hit on U.S. Highway 41 near the intersection with 37th Street Court West in Bradenton.
Former Pinellas County deputy, Timothy Alan Vaughan, 37, of Palmetto, was behind the wheel of a Kia Sportage when he failed to maintain his lane and drove into Morris' motorcycle.
The collision threw Marler from the vehicle and sent the bike into another motorcycle driven by Christopher Mumea, 25, of Bradenton Mumea and a passenger, Cassy Mumea, were not injured. Troopers said that Vaughan then drove over Marler.
The victim was taken to Blake Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Morris suffered minor injuries and was treated at BMC.
Troopers said that Vaughan was impaired at the time of the crash. Pinellas County Sheriff's Office fired Vaughan on Saturday morning. He was charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage, DUI personal injury and careless driving.
Vaughan has been a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputy since January 22, 2007.
