Preliminary estimates show Hurricane Hermine caused more than $7.7 million in damages in Hernando County, officials said.
The sheriff's office released figures today showing the storm and the flooding it caused destroyed two buildings, caused major damage to 18 buildings and left 179 buildings with minor damage.
Eight commercial buildings were affected, and one business is considered destroyed, officials said.
Total damage was estimated at $7,794,269.
County officials say debris collection will begin Tuesday. Residents are asked to put storm-related debris in the public right-of-way for pickup. Separate vegetative debris, such as branches and shrubbery, from construction debris and items such as appliances, because they will be collected separately.
Officials say only loose debris will be collected; do not put bagged debris in the right-of-way.
