One of the biggest debates in Florida following the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 people dead has been over assault rifles.
Police say the suspected shooter, Nikolas Cruz, used an AR-15 in the attack. Should AR-15s be legal?
A Senate committee taking up the issue rejected the ban on Monday.
The NRA points to 10 reasons people should own them, from an article posted in 2014. Those reasons are:
- Self defense
- Fun/recreation
- Teaching/learning
- Hunting
- Tinkering
- Farm/Ranch use
- Competitive shooting
- Disaster preparedness
- Bringing women into shooting
The NRA also has a list published on its blog from 2016 with the 10 reasons assault rifles should not be banned.
