Michigan deputy climbs into moving truck to save distressed driver

The deputy climbed out of the window of the Sheriff's SUV and into the window of the truck as they continued driving down the road.

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. — A deputy from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office climbed from her vehicle into one that was driving erratically to help stop the vehicle and protect others on the road.

On Sept. 12 around 2:20 p.m., MCSO deputies were dispatched to southbound Gratiot Avenue in Mount Clemens for a silver GMC Sierra driving strangely near Church Street.

Deputies found the vehicle on southbound Gratiot Avenue near Remick Drive and activated their lights and sirens.

The driver, a 63-year-old man, wouldn't stop and continued driving southbound at about 5 miles per hour.

Deputies pulled up beside the driver, who they said appeared to be in a daze and couldn't comprehend their requests.

MCSO said eventually the driver rolled down his window and briefly hit the brakes.

MCSO's Deputy Miron, who was in the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, climbed out of the window of the Sheriff's SUV and into the window of the truck while the vehicles continued to drive down Gratiot Avenue.

Once Miron was in the truck, she was able to stop the vehicle. She then called one of the driver's family members to confirm his medical condition.

The Clinton Township Fire Department arrived at the scene and began to treat the driver. He was then taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

“I commend Deputy Miron for putting herself in harm’s way to help a citizen in need and protect other drivers on the roadway,” said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. “Due to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation.”
