Enormous alligator takes a dip in a golf course water feature

"Once it got on the green you could hear the "thud" with every step... like you would expect to hear from a dinosaur or something," the man who took the video explained.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Talk about a water hazard you never want to encounter on the golf course.

This enormous alligator was spotted taking a dip in a water feature at The Club golf course in Savannah Harbor, Georgia on Sunday.

Vance took the video and told Reuters he's seen alligators on the course before. However, this one was much larger than normal.

"When I noticed how big this one was, I instinctively reached into my golf bag, grabbed my phone and started filming it," Vance said. "I thought my four-year-old son would love it. We were all in awe of how massive it was."

He also noted the noise the gator made as it moved across the course.

"Once it got on the green, you could hear the "thud" with every step... like you would expect to hear from a dinosaur or something," Vance explained.

Giant Gators in Florida

While giant gators might be less common in Georgia, there are some big ones in Florida that have become famous over the years.

There's "Fabio," for instance, who become known around the world after he was spotted at the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland.

"This huge gator that they call Fabio swims right up and stops in front of us in the water and we realize he wants to cross the path," Griffin Paul told 10News after seeing him firsthand, "So we all back up away and give him space."

There's also Mr. Humpback, another giant gator who calls the same reserve home. He's estimated to be about 15 feet long and weigh up to 800 lbs.
