HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A Katy-area homeowner told KHOU 11 News she’s traumatized after burglars shot her dog and ransacked her home in the Sundown neighborhood. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the case.
“I’m still scared to death, I’m scared to be in my house, scared to leave the house,” Barbara George said.
George said the incident happened last Thursday while she was at work, though she may have spotted the suspects earlier that day.
“I was driving to work around 5:30 a.m. and I noticed two males up the street and I had a bad feeling about it but I just kept going,” she said.
George said she later realized her home had been broken into when she came home for lunch. The back door had been kicked in, all her lights were on and the burglars had turned the AC down to 60 degrees.
George explained that rescue dog Bailey had also been shot; there was still a bullet near the dog’s right, front leg when she found her.
“Who would do something like that,” she said. “I was so shaken and I was trying to call the police and I couldn’t even dial the phone.”
The burglars raided George's bedroom closet and left with gift cards and her mother’s jewelry. She explained that they left behind a flashlight and dog treats. They also violated her son’s cremated remains.
“My son died about six years ago and I had the ashes in my closet and they [burglars] opened them up and went through them,” she said. “I had some clothes of his in a suitcase that they also went through.”

George told KHOU 11 News that she was aware of another neighbor whose home was nearly broken into a week before her property was burglarized.
“I want people to be more aware of what kind of people are out there," she said.
