Letter to the editor:
It’s not until there’s an opening for a justice on the Supreme Court that the “job for life” terms come into play (“Restrict justices to 18-year term: Column”).
Any job for life should be re-thought. All of us age at different rates and degrees, but there certainly should be a term limit for all jobs.
While we are at it, the president’s term of four years with the possibility of being re-elected for another four years should be changed to one six-year term!

We asked what our followers thought about lifetime appointments for Supreme Court justices. Comments from Twitter are edited for clarity and grammar:
I agree with term limits. Change is always healthy.

Sometimes it seems wrong. But it has to be lifetime, or a long, set number of years, so they can have no fear.

Given how embedded special interests/lobbyists are in D.C., lifetime appointments are the only way to keep the Supreme Court impartial.

Well, like any job, I believe everyone should be evaluated annually on their capacity to fulfill his/her responsibilities.
