EDISTO ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 4-man crew competing in a shark tournament this past weekend caught an enormous 14-foot tiger shark weighing in at a staggering 1,130 pounds.
An article posted on www.SouthCarolinaSportsman.com states Cal Young and his crew of Johnny Sanders, Madison Utsey and Patrick Zemp fought the shark for nearly two hours, about 30 miles out of Edisto Island on Saturday.
The fisherman says part of the weight of the shark was from the 100 pound loggerhead turtle that was found inside the shark's belly.
"It was slow going, and we tried several times to get her onboard, but it just wasn't going to happen," Young said. "We could only make about 4 knots, and that was going to be too late."
The size of the fish would have won the team the tournament, but they didn't get it in on time.
Frampton Ferguson won the tournament with a 482 pound tiger shark.
