KISSIMMEE, Fla. — It was a lucky day for a woman out of Polk County after she won $5 million from a scratch-off game.
According to a news release from the Florida Lottery, 60-year-old Janice Velez of Kissimmee claimed the top prize from the "$5,000,000 CASHWORD" scratch-off game.
She took a trip up to the Lotter's Headquarters in Tallahassee to collect her winnings – which she chose to receive as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,915,000.
Velez bought her winning ticket from a RaceTrac, located at 4541 Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee. The gas station will get a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
"The $20 Scratch-Off game, $5,000,000 CASHWORD, launched in May 2020 and features eight top prizes of $5 million and 24 second-tier prizes of $1 million!" lottery leaders explain in the release.
The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-2.91.
