PARRISH, Fla. — A woman from Manatee County is a million dollars richer thanks to a big prize from a scratch-off game.
Terasa Katsaros, 51, of Parrish claimed her $1 million prize at the Florida Lottery's headquarters on Tuesday.
Katsaros chose to collect her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000, the Florida Lottery said in a news release.
The 51-year-old bought her scratch-off game from a Publix located on North U.S. Highway 301 in Parrish. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
The scratch-off game that Katsaros purchased cost $50 and launched in February. It also features two top prizes of $1 million a year for life and 234 prizes of $1 million. The overall odds of winning the game are 1-in-4.50.
"Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery's portfolio of games, comprising approximately 72 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2022-2023," the Florida Lottery said in a statement. "Since inception, Scratch-Off games have generated more than $18.09 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF)."
