Powerball in Florida: Tampa Publix sells ticket worth $2M

The winning Florida tickets matched all numbers except the Powerball, winning at least $1M.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Two people in Florida are new year millionaires following Monday night's $810 million Powerball drawing.

Although no one in the Sunshine State matched all numbers — 12, 21, 42, 4, 49 and Powerball 1 — to win the big jackpot, one person hit five numbers but the Powerball, winning $1 million, according to the Florida Lottery.

That ticket was sold at Publix located at 1537 NW. Saint Lucie Blvd. in Port Saint Lucie.

Another person added the Power Play, resulting in an additional $1 million prize for a total of $2 million. Lottery officials confirmed this winning ticket was sold at Publix at 10928 Cross Creek Blvd. in Tampa.

A winning combination of all the numbers for the sixth-largest jackpot in the game's history was sold in Michigan, but it could be some time before the lucky person is known. Under Michigan law, people have a year to publically claim their prize.

The lottery game hasn't seen a jackpot winner since Oct. 11, when a single ticket in California took home the $1.76 billion prize.

The jackpot falls to $20 million for the next drawing set for Wednesday, Jan. 3.
