NAPLES, Fla. — A man from Baltimore, Maryland, is a whole lot richer thanks to a stop he made at a grocery store in southwest Florida.
Collin Reed, 39, won a $1 million prize from a scratch-off game that cost $5, the Florida Lottery said in a news release.
Reed selected to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $685,000.
The 39-year-old from out of state bought the Gold Rush Doubler scratch-off game from a Publix located on Radio Road in Naples. The grocery store will now receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
"Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery's portfolio of games, comprising approximately 72 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2022-2023," the Florida Lottery wrote in the news release. "Since their inception, Scratch-Off games have generated more than $18.39 billion for education."
The overall odds of winning the grand prize of that specific scratch-off ticket are 1-in-3.98.
