'I'm over a year sober' | Watch youth share their stories of addiction, hope in Pasco County

The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention called Tuesday's panel discussion one of the most important events it hosts.

Drug use, alcohol abuse and mental health were all topics of discussion Tuesday during a meeting between Pasco County leaders and young adults.

The "Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention" is looking for ways to help the community understand how to create a healthier and safer environment for young people.

The organization hosted a youth-led panel discussion Tuesday morning at Heritage Lakes Community Center in Land O' Lakes.

“This is one of the most important events we host every year," ASAP Coordinator Monica Rousseau said. “By better understanding priority issues perceived by youth, we can create more relevant community strategies to improve health, well-being, and our sense of community. Youth feedback is invaluable.”

ASAP was founded in 2006 and has coordinated efforts to reduce substance abuse ever since.
