Wounded Orlando police officer remains in coma but condition is improving after shooting

Officer Kevin Valencia will be transferred to a rehabilitation center in Georgia.

More than two weeks after Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia was shot in head during a standoff with an armed suspect holding four children hostage, his family says he remains in a coma but is now responsive.

"I'm just so happy that he's coming back to us," Valencia's wife Meghan said while fighting back tears.

Officer Valencia has shown an ability to give a thumbs up when doctors ask.

He will be transferred to Shepherd Center -- a rehab facility in Georgia.

Valencia was shot and wounded through the front door of an Orlando apartment, where Gary Lindsey Jr. is accused of killing four kids -- including two of his own -- before taking his own life.
