Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police say a woman attending New Year's festivities at Busch Gardens was hit by a falling bullet shortly before midnight.

Kaitlyn Jacobs, 20, of Seminole, was sitting in the Gwazi Pavilion area around 11:50 p.m. when she felt pain in her lower left leg.

She was assisted by Busch Gardens Medical Services and transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where X-rays showed a bullet had lodged in her leg.

Police believe someone had fired into the air and the bullet inadvertently struck Jacobs. There were no other reports of injuries at Busch Gardens or in the area of Busch Gardens.

There were approximately 30 calls of fireworks/shots fired in the area between 11 p.m. and 12:20.

This appears to be an isolated incident and it is undetermined where the bullet originated from.

Busch Gardens released a statement on the incident Thursday morning:

Just before midnight, a guest was struck in the lower leg by what appears to be a celebratory stray bullet fired in to the air. The guest was immediately transported to the hospital where she was treated and released. We are continuing to work with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our guests and team members, which remains Busch Gardens' top priority.
