Withlacoochee River Electric Co. and demanding payment for "overdue" bills.

The callers say they are from the customer service department and threaten to turn off their power if they do not send money, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff reminds residents that they should not send any money or provide any personal information to the callers, nor call any numbers that they provide.

If Withlacoochee customers have questions about their bill, the number to call is 352-567-5133. The utility is investigating on how the scammers got the phone numbers of their customers.
