UPS apologizes after video shows driver tossing packages

UPS delivers an apology after surveillance video shows driver tossing packages
After slinging one package, you can hear and see the driver slam a box on top before scanning the packages, ringing the doorbell and walking off.

It was the wrong kind of special delivery. A doorbell surveillance camera capturing a UPS driver airmailing a package onto Dan Davis' front step.

"It was like an underhand Frisbee toss," Davis said.

After slinging one package, you can hear and see the driver slam a box on top before scanning the packages, ringing the doorbell and walking off. Ironically, Davis says he just installed the camera and this was the first ring. It captured more dings, than ding dong, though.

"I've gotten several packages from UPS before where they are dinged up and a couple of them damaged and actually now I know why," Davis said.

Davis says he immediately called UPS customer service but didn't hear back so he contacted 10News WTSP. Almost immediately after we reached out to UPS, Davis received several phone calls and the company delivered him an apology.

Fortunately, there wasn't anything fragile in the two packages in this delivery.

"Supplies for my daughter's birthday party and a blanket," Davis said.  "Everybody has a bad day at work and I understand this time of year is probably very slammed for them and they are probably very behind but then again they should be treating everybody's packages with good care."

In a statement UPS says, "At UPS, we take seriously the care of our customers' packages and train our drivers to handle packages properly."
