UPDATE: Teen arrested in brutal library attack

16-year-old Kendrick Morris was arrested early Saturday morning. Investigators say he is responsible for brutally beating and sexually assaulting a teen girl at the Bloomingdale Regional Library.

He is charged with two felony counts of sexual battery with bodily harm, one felony count of aggravated battery and one felony count of kidnapping with intent to commit a felony.The teenage victim was attacked Thursday night as she stopped at Bloomingdale Regional Library to drop off some books around 10 p.m.She was chatting on her cell phone with a friend when she noticed a suspicious man sitting on a bench at the library. She screamed and the phone went dead.The victim's friend drove to the library to check on her. She called a 911 dispatcher to explain what she was seeing. She screamed as she saw blood in the area. ldquo;We drove up here because I was worried because, you know, she's not answering the phone and her car is here with emergency lights and there's blood all over the floor. No there's blood all over the floor!rdquo;The victim's uncle arrived and called 911 too. He screamed at family members begging them not to contaminate the crime scene. ldquo;My niece is missing and then there's blood in the car. I don't want to touch the car please. 911 operator says don't touch it. He says 'And tell everybody don't touch the car'. Mom, no don't touch anything. Don't touch anything! Get away from that car!rdquo;Minutes later the victim's parents found her in a grassy area about 200 yards away from her car behind the library. She was severely beaten and sexually assaulted. Officials say she is still unconscious and has not been able to tell authorities anything about what happened that night.Still, after a massive search that included a helicopter, 70 deputies and the department's dive team, deputies were able to find some important clues, forensic evidence, like fingerprints. Deputy Chief Jose Docobo says they located the victim's purse and some of her personal items in a grassy area near the library. Those items were airlifted to the crime scene lab so they could be processed.Chief Docobo told reporters he credits the relentless work of law enforcement and the public's help in making the arrest. He said a number of interviews, witnesses and other clues pointed to Morris.According to a criminal history report obtained by Tampa Bay's 10 News, Morris has a juvenile arrest record which includes 3 arrests for cruelty to animals.
