CLEARWATER, Fla. — As many recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, police in Clearwater are telling people to be wary of any potential contractors they hire.

According to Clearwater Police Department, there's been an uptick in salespeople trying to get access to the beaches. It led police to warn residents about unlicensed contractors often targeting people after a storm.

Parts of Clearwater Beach, Island Estates and Sand Key could still be grappling with power outages in addition to very low water pressure.

The beach communities remain off-limits to visitors as of Sunday. However, residents were recently allowed to go back home Saturday afternoon. Access is also allowed for business owners and people who work on the beach. It's expected to be that way until restrictions lift on 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to police

Contractors who can prove they're going to a specific address are currently allowed access, but police are still advising people to make sure that any contractors they hire are properly licensed.

If you have questions about whether a contractor is licensed, you can find that information here.
