Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police could roll out body cameras for Gasparilla.
Tuesday morning, the chief talked about the possibility of officers wearing the cameras Gasparilla, but no decision has been made.
Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn also unveiled new Gasparilla Badges.
All of Tampa's police officers will receive the special badge, made by the Ye Mystic Krewe, commemorating this year's 100th year of Gasparilla.
Rick Chambers of the Chambers Group Professional Services partnered with City of Tampa graphic designer Jeremy Rex to create the special Gasparilla badge.
"Gasparilla began in 1904 as a unique community celebration to help draw visitors to our area" said J. Rex Farrior III, Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. "Gasparilla has grown over the years to be part of the fabric of our Community — all made possible through our family relationship with the City of Tampa and the Tampa Police Department."
"We wanted to make the 100th Gasparilla season special this year, and we felt there was no better way to do this than pause, and recognize the Tampa Police Department for their support through all these years", said Darrell Stefany, President of EventFest and Project manager of Gasparilla events. "We are delighted that leadership has decided to wear these badges annually during Tampa's Gasparilla season – defined from the Children's Gasparilla Extravaganza (next-to-last Saturday in January) through the Gasparilla Outbound Voyage (first Saturday in March).
Gasparilla is Saturday, Jan. 31.
The Children's Gasparilla Parade runs the weekend before on Saturday, Jan. 24.
