Tampa, Florida -- Dr. Catherine Lynch has delivered over 10,000 babies since arriving at Tampa General Hospital over two decades ago. But, on New Year's Eve 2014, she had a first.

"I thought I would be here four years and now I'm delivering the children of my prior deliveries," she said.

Lynch first met new dad, Mikais Rivers, in 1992. His mother, Angela Wilson, came to Tampa General to have him and Lynch delivered him. Now, 22 years later, Lynch delivered Rivers' first child.

"I actually was told by my mom that that's the lady that delivered me, and when she was delivering my baby, she was actually telling us that she delivered me, too," said Mikais.

Rivers named his child Kahleis Lamarroni Rivers. Kahleis' mother, Amber Washington, was just as surprised to find out about Lynch and Rivers' connection as anyone.

"No, I had no idea until they started talking," said Washington. "She said, 'I delivered you,' and we were like, oh my God!"

Kahleis weighed in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces. Wilson and Lynch shared memories and took photos to commemorate a second generation birth in the family. Wilson still has photos of Lynch holding her son in 1992. Wilson says Lynch delivered "at least half" of her eight total children.

"Maybe Dr. Lynch delivers her baby," Washington joked about her newborn.
