Tampa, Florida -- In preparation for hurricane season, Tampa Electric unveiled its newest weapon to make sure customers aren't without power for weeks -- a half-million dollar Mobile Command Center.
It's equipped with a satellite communication system, mast-mounted cameras, and a conference room area allowing crews in the field to be dispatched to the most affected areas sooner.
"We can bring this to the most heavily damaged, have eyes and ears on the ground, check out the damage, and assess the problem and really help speed restoration," said TECO spokesperson Cheria Jacobs.
TECO says they spend more than $56 million annually to harden their system against severe weather.
