Update on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017: TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Fire Rescue determined an electrical malfunction on the back patio of an apartment complex caused a two-alarm fire on Monday afternoon.
Investigators said the malfunction was in the power supply to the condenser unit of an air conditioning system at the Brookshire Townhomes.
The damage to the structure is estimated at more than $400,000, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
Crews put out the fire around 4:10 p.m. Monday.
Original Story on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017: TAMPA -- Tampa firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex Monday afternoon.
The fire reportedly started around 3:30 p.m. at the Brookshire Townhomes located at the 1900 block of West Sligh Ave. near Rome Ave. Officials received several calls about smoke and flames coming from the two-story building.
Eight units were affected by the fire and firefighters were able to clear all of the units. According to officials, there were no reported injuries and all residents were accounted for. One cat was affected by smoke and has been treated with a pet mask. It appears to be recovering well.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 4:10 p.m. and continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
