TAMPA, Florida (AP) -- For anyone wanting an extreme makeover of their salary, a Tampa Internet company offers an easy solution: it prints fake pay stubs that look real. But Automatic Data Processing isn't amused because it says the phony documents use the payroll processor's trademark without permission. Nor are banks, landlords and other businesses that might get fooled by the fake stubs. ADP is suing noveltypaycheckstubs.com and the operators of the site that makes the pay stubs for about $90, including a person's Social Security number. A February 6th hearing is scheduled on the company's request for an injunction restraining the Internet company from using its trademark. ADP is seeking compensatory damages, up to one million dollars per use of the counterfeit trademark and other restitution. The Tampa company recommends its fake documents be used for entertainment purposes only, not for credit applications or qualifying for an apartment lease. Yet its Web site suggests that fooling lenders is one use for the stubs.
