Armed suspect arrested after hours-long standoff in Sarasota

After a long waiting game, deputies arrested Jeremy Neipert. Deputies found both weapons and said there is no danger to the public.

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a man it says threatened a woman with a gun after an hours-long standoff outside a home.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Jeremy Neipert early Monday morning on Courtland Street in Sarasota. Deputies also found both weapons and said there is no danger to the public.

Neipert, 25, is charged with domestic assault with intent to commit a felony.

The sheriff's office said an incident on Bacon Avenue near Palmer Boulevard in Sarasota began as a domestic dispute.

According to sheriff's spokeswoman Kaitlyn Perez, a woman called and said Neipert threatened to kill her with a gun, then to kill himself.

He also reportedly armed himself with an AR-15.

When deputies arrived, they said they saw him run into his home. They set up a perimeter and tried to get him to come out.

In addition to the SWAT team, the K-9, Air-1 and negotiation unit were on the scene.

After 10 hours, the SWAT team went inside and searched the home for Neipert. He was not inside.

A warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. More charges are pending.
