MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. - One bar owner has ditched plastic straws for ones made out of food.
On a trip to Bali, Will Veneziano used straws made out of the root vegetable cassava, and decided he wanted them for his business, Mad Beach Dive Bar.
"They're actually edible," Veneziano said. "If a sea turtle eats these straws, they're going to digest it.
He ordered 10,000 of them. With shipping, they cost him seven times more what plastic straws would.
But Veneziano, an environmental scientist, can’t go back.
"I can't sell plastic straws," he said.
