Tropical Storm Hermine just got its name and it already stinks for some in Largo ... literally.
"It smells pretty bad," said neighbor Eddie Cardona.
Bubbling out like a geyser from a manhole is raw sewage. It's spewing out of manholes all over the city.
"There's no way to keep up with this kind of flow," said Irvin Kety, Largo Environmental Services director.
Kety says a massive construction project to improve the system has left it vulnerable to major rain events like Hermine.
"There's very little we can do about it," Kety said.
The city has started a controlled discharge of chlorinated wastewater into Cross Bayou to try and stop untreated sewage from overwhelming the facility.
"Actually looks just like water that comes out of the faucet, looks just like drinking water, it's just not been de-chlorinated," Kety said.
But remember what looks like dirty rainwater around the city, is likely much worse.
We gotta live with this crap," Cardona said.
At least until the rain stops falling.
