SARASOTA, Fla. — A man accused of killing a former Riverview High School football star in a 2021 shooting in Sarasota County was found guilty of manslaughter on Thursday, news station WWSB reports.

Nyquan Priester was initially charged with second-degree murder for a deadly shooting that happened just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2021, in Sarasota's Ackerman Park.

Police said a group of 40-50 people were gathered there when shots rang out from the back seat of a car in the parking lot. Dylan Jenkins was shot in the back.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said the driver of that car identified Priester as the shooter.

According to an arrest warrant, the driver told deputies Priester had expressed violent thoughts before the murder.

"I'm fixin' to air this b---- out. I'm fixin' to shoot at people," the driver told deputies Priester said beforehand.

Priester was located in New York and arrested in January 2022.

On Thursday, a jury returned two guilty verdicts — manslaughter and firing a gun from a car within 1,000 feet of people.
