Deputies identify suspected shooter in apparent murder-suicide at Sarasota vet clinic

The sheriff's office confirmed that the 38-year-old suspected shooter was a former employee.

SARASOTA, Fla. — A woman and the suspected shooter are dead following an apparent murder-suicide at a Sarasota vet clinic, according to law enforcement.

Deputies responded just after 5 p.m. Wednesday to the KindVet of Sarasota Urgent Care, located at 3900 Clark Road, following reports of shots fired, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Evan Keats said.

Once at the scene, law enforcement discovered two women — the suspect and victim, Keats continued. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries.

The suspected shooter, identified by deputies as 38-year-old Morgan Kronstadt, was pronounced dead at the scene. It's believed Kronstadt, a former employee, fired upon the woman before killing herself.

In an update Thursday afternoon, investigators said Kronstadt entered the business through the front door and locked it from the inside before shooting the victim. Three other people inside the animal hospital at the time escaped uninjured out the back of the business and called 911.

A post published on the animal hospital's Facebook page just prior to the shooting appeared to be a warning about the impending incident. The post, which has since been taken down, is possibly connected to the shooting, the sheriff's office said.

The investigation is ongoing.
