SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — For those living in unincorporated areas of Sarasota County, new solid waste haulers will be rolling through your neighborhood next year collecting your trash bins.

Sarasota County’s Solid Waste Department announced new franchise hauler contracts for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection that will take effect March 2025, according to a news release.

Approved by the county’s board of commissioners, Waste Pro of Florida Inc. is the new franchise hauler in the Solid Waste North District while FCC Environmental Services of Florida LLC. is the franchise hauler in the Solid Waste South District, officials said.

Residents can find out which district they fall into on Sarasota County’s website here.

The new contracts come with “smoother, more customer service-oriented” technology including a new service verification system that will track and monitor collections as haulers “work through their daily routes,” the release said.

"We will be able to see live, in real-time routes that may be potentially behind, or service issues where a street may have been missed," Director of Solid Waste Brian Usher said in a statement.

These services will be available for residents and businesses operating in unincorporated Sarasota County, so those living or operating in the cities of Sarasota, Venice, North Port or Longboat Key will not be affected by the new hauler contracts, the release said.

Residents will be provided one garbage cart per residence close to when delivery is expected to begin late February to early March 2025.

Sarasota County officials shared a video about the changes.
