NORTH PORT, Fla. — As this year’s gator mating season heightens across the state, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission tells people to expect to see the reptiles at an increasing rate (just make sure to keep your distance).
Someone kept their distance enough to snap a picture of a “little dinosaur” Tuesday in the Oasis community of North Port under a car, with its head lying squarely on the ground, according to a North Port Police Department Facebook post.
Local wildlife authorities worked to relocate the gator and no one was hurt during the sighting, the post said.
This incident is similar to when an alligator made its way from a neighborhood pond and into a Venice woman’s home on March 28.
“Florida Rule #1 - If you're near a pond or river there's a good chance you're not alone,” the post said. “Don't feed, harass, or get too close to alligators. Don't be that person.”
