NORTH PORT, Fla. โ North Port Fire Rescue crews said Sunday they were still in the "mop-up" stage of treating a three-alarm brush fire in the area.
According to firefighters, the large brush fire broke out Saturday night in the area of Sultan Avenue and Lown Street in North Port.
Now contained, the blaze spans about 75 acres. As of Sunday morning, firefighters said they were working on hotspots and controlling any flare ups. People were told to avoid the area Sunday due to the large first responder presence.
When the blaze first spread, northbound Interstate 75 was briefly shut down in the area due to the flames. It reopened later Saturday night.
Fire officials said evacuations were issued briefly when flames threatened some nearby homes. The people evacuated were able to return to their homes Saturday night.
While some homes had suffered minor damage, none were lost, officials said.
