SARASOTA, Fla. — Traffic delays are building along Interstate 75 after a car crashed and caught fire in Sarasota, the sheriff's office said.
The crash happened around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday on southbound I-75 near Clark Road. A car reportedly crashed and caught fire, causing much of the road to be shut down in the area.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 56-year-old man from Sarasota was driving southbound when he drove onto the right shoulder and collided with a semi-truck parked on the I-75 shoulder. The man was seriously hurt in the crash and was rushed to the hospital. The semi-truck driver was not hurt, FHP said.
Looking at Florida Department of Transportation traffic cameras, it appears cars are able to get by via one southbound lane.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
