FHP: Mother hits 12-year-old daughter with SUV outside of Booker Middle School

The girl was airlifted to All Children's Hospital in critical condition, troopers say.

SARASOTA, Fla. — A 12-year-old girl was critically hurt after troopers say she was hit by an SUV driven by her mother Monday morning outside of Booker Middle School.

According to a crash report, the girl had just gotten out of the SUV off Myrtle Street at 7:45 a.m. when she dropped markers and pens. She bent over to pick them up from under the vehicle when her 30-year-old mother started driving forward, hitting the girl.

The 12-year-old was airlifted to All Children's Hospital following the collision. Her condition is said to be critical.

This all happened as school districts across the Tampa Bay area welcomed students back for the first day of school, including at Booker Middle School.

The incident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
