NOKOMIS, Fla. — A pedestrian died on U.S. Highway 41 Friday morning after he was hit by an oncoming SUV, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 5 a.m. on the highway at the intersection of Palmetto Road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.
Troopers say the man, a 50-year-old from Troy, Michigan, was trying to cross six travel lanes outside the crosswalk at Albee Road and U.S. 41 when he was hit by a northbound SUV driven by a 64-year-old man from Nokomis.
The man died at the scene of the crash.
Northbound U.S. 41 was down to a single lane for hours.
FHP is continuing an investigation, the agency said in its report.
