SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Sarasota Police Department put out a warning to residents on its Facebook page, reminding them to lock up their guns and remove them from cars.
The reminder comes after police say the 17th gun was stolen from an unlocked vehicle this year alone in the city.
Police say the firearm was stolen late Friday night on Links Avenue near 29th Street in Sarasota.
"Please remember to ALWAYS remove your firearms, valuables and lock your cars," officers wrote.
Even if you're home or only step away for two minutes to run to the store, police say you should still lock up.
