SARASOTA, Florida (AP) - A man and woman are being held without bond in a Sarasota jail in connection with death of the woman's 3-year-old daughter.
Authorities say Asia Rosier and Jumar Edwards were arrested Monday on felony child abuse charges following the death of Jewel Howard on April 11.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports the girl had received treatment for asthma on April 10 and vomited and started complaining of pain. The couple told a family friend they were taking her to the doctor. Investigators say that wasn't true.
The friend called 911 the next day after trying to get the couple to take Jewel to the hospital. She said the girl was "flopping" around and became non-responsive. She was pronounced dead that day.
An autopsy revealed severe trauma.
